In 1970, Trenam Law’s founders, who all practiced at the same law firm, decided to leave and start their own law firm with well-credential attorneys providing excellent legal work serving clients in Tampa Bay. Together, they founded Trenam, Simmons, Kemker, Scharf & Barkin with 9 attorneys and 12 staff members. 50 years later, Trenam Law (legally Trenam, Kemker, Scharf, Barkin, Frye, O’Neill & Mullis) is still striving to provide that same level of excellent legal work as they intended from the beginning.
Original Founders of Trenam Law
They have a unique culture: Trenam is committed to excellent, highly responsive client service, giving back to the community, and investing in their team members. Trenam attorneys are guided by their code of client commitment that includes understanding clients’ business, understanding fees and budgets of clients, being accessible to clients, and delivering services in a timely manner. “Our attorneys value relationships over projects, and to be not just attorneys, but reliable business partners and trusted advisors to our clients,” said Charley Harris, shareholder in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group and Partnership member (pictured to the left).
In 1990, the firm opened their St. Petersburg office (pictured below) to better serve the entire Tampa Bay community. They love being downtown! The vibrant and beautiful location is easily accessible for both clients and for Trenam’s Tampa team members. Many of their attorneys worked at other Tampa law firms but with a St. Pete client base, so the Downtown St. Pete location has made quite the difference for them to be able to better serve these clients.
Because Trenam believes in their community, they have invested in the St. Pete area, whether that be through treasure or volunteer work. Many of the attorneys at Trenam have leadership positions in local organizations, and the firm has financially donated to the Dali Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, St. Pete Chamber of Commerce, St. Pete EDC and organizations that encompass all of Pinellas County including Pinellas Urban League and Pinellas Education Foundation – just to name a few. They value these deep roots in the community.
When the COVID-19 pandemic came around, Trenam Law was not completely unprepared. They have invested heavily in technology, foreseeing possible business interruption because of a hurricane. When the pandemic hit, this preparation helped them tremendously, especially at the beginning when, without much notice, most team members started working from home. Now, they have joined the virtual world like everyone else. Many team members have the option to be in the office or to work from home. But Trenam is still committed to providing the best client service, even in this new virtual world.
