Mnuchin Predicts Another Supplemental Bill Will Probably be Needed

Yesterday Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said he expects an additional supplemental bill will likely be needed. Mnuchin also echoed comments made by Republican leadership earlier this week about needing to assess the impact of the previous bills before moving forward.  He stated, “I think there is a strong likelihood we will need another bill, but we just have $3 trillion we're pumping into the economy.”

The scope and timing for the next package remains unclear.  While Democrats passed their package last week, Senate Republicans have described it as “dead on arrival.”  Assuming another package takes shape, some of the key priorities for Republicans will likely be addressing unemployment insurance as they argue the $600 per week add-on payment creates a disincentive for employees to return to work and liability protections for businesses.
